Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, MintMenu is the default menu of Linux Mint Mate, and it looks quite awesome. Via the MintMenu, the users can easily access their favorite apps or search for the desired apps and files via the search bar. Also, it can be customized from the preferences menu.

The latest version available is MintMenu 5.5.2, which has been released a while ago.

In this article I will show you how to install Mint Menu 5.5.2 on Ubuntu Mate 14.10 Utopic Unicorn and Ubuntu Mate 14.04 Trusty Tahr.

Because it is not available via any PPA or repository for both Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04, we will need to download the deb package and install it via command-line. I prefer gdebi over dpkg due to the fact that it also handles dependencies.

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget ppa.launchpad.net/eugenesan/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/m/mintmenu/mintmenu_5.5.2-0~eugenesan~trusty1_all.deb
$ sudo gdebi mintmenu_5.5.2-0~eugenesan~trusty1_all.deb

Optional, to remove mintmenu, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove mintmenu
