Hello Jolla and Sailfish OS Enthusiasts. Adam Pigg, an independent geek and Sailfish OS fan has successfully ported Jolla’s Sailfish OS on Nokia N950, a phone created for Nokia N9 and MeeGo developers.
In order to get Sailfish OS, Adam has added the Jolla repositories to the Nokia N950′s Nemo and updated the system. The Android apps don’t work on Sailfish OS installed on the N950, because same kernel module’s missing.
To my mind, Sailfish OS runs quite smoothly on the Nokia device. See for yourself, in the above video.
This is not surprising at all, since the Jolla testers have used the Nokia N950 as a testing environment for the Sailfish OS apps. A flashable image will be available soon via images.formeego.org/.
For those who don’t know, Jolla is a project developed by former Nokia employees. The first Jolla smartphone is running on Sailfish OS, a modified Megoo Linux system, which is Android compatible, uses Wayland as the default display server , uses Nokia N9′s Maliit touchscreen keyboard and comes with interchangeable covers, allowing the users to easily switch them, in order to change the color/model of the phone and comes with impressive hardware specifications. Apps can be installed via the Jolla Store, which will provide both Jolla and Android apps, or via F-Droid and Yandex Store, but some tweaking can be done, in order to get apps directly from the Google Play Store.
