How To Install GParted 0.22.0 On Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, GParted is a a graphical user interface application for managing partitions and hard disks. It allows the users to easily create, delete, resize, check partitions, set new UUIDs and has support for the most important file systems, including: btrfs, ext2/ext3/ext4, fat16/fat32, hfs/hfs+, linux-swap, ntfs, reiserfs/reiser4 and many others.

The latest version available is GParted 0.22.0, which has been released, coming with changes.

Key changes include:

  • Add read and write support for unpartitioned whole disk devices
  • Add read and write support for GPT partition names

Bug Fixes:

  • Make swap usage match figures reported by swapon -s
  • Correct dialog title displaying libparted exceptions
  • GParted cannot recognise LVM signature on unpartitioned drive
  • Add unpartitioned drive read-write support
  • If available use udisks2-inhibit to prevent automounting

In this article I will show you how to install GParted 0.22.0 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

Because it is available via the GetDeb repository, installing GParted 0.22.0 on Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the repository and the key to your system, update the local repository index and install the gparted package.

$ sudo apt-get install gparted

Optional, to remove gparted from either Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 or a derivative system, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove gparted
