Filezilla is an open-source, cross-platform, popular FTP client, available for Linux, Windows and Mac systems. It has support for FTP, FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), can handle (and resume) transfers of files over 4 GB, has a tabbed interface, supports Bookmarsks, drag and drop and filename filters and permits the users to limit the transfer speed, among others.

The latest version available is Filezilla 3.11.0.1, which brings the below changes:

  • Reject Diffie-Hellman Groups smaller than 1024 bits when using FTP over TLS to protect against the Logjam attack
  • Do not bind the source IP address of the data connection if the server is not configured properly
  • Deleting bookmarks from the bookmarks dialog no longer deletes the wrong bookmark
  • Fixed CPU compatibility issues on 64bit binaries

Installation instructions:

For Ubuntu and derivative systems, Filezilla is available for some third party PPAs, both maintained by Nate Muench (Mink).

To install the latest version available of Filezilla on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, do the following:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:n-muench/programs-ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install filezilla

For Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, the installation steps are the same, but we need to add the proper PPA:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:n-muench/programs-ppa2
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install filezilla
