LightZone 4.1.1 has been recently released, bringing a few bug-fixes only.

LightZone is a free image editing program, similar to DarkTable, and a good alternative for Adobe Lightroom, which is proprietary software. It has support for the most popular image formats, RAW included and may be a good choice.

The latest version available is LightZone 4.1.1, which brings a few bug-fixes only:

  • Minimum right pane width was too narrow
  • LCMS library name conflicts with Java 8’s LCMS library

Installation instructions:

LightZone is available via PPA, so installing it on Ubuntu and derivative systems is quite easy. Just add the PPA to your system, update the repositories and install the lighezone package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/lightzone
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install lightzone

Optional, to remove lightzone, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove lightzone

The instructions should work on all the supported Ubuntu systems and derivatives: Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04 and Linux Lite 2.
