As you may know, App Grid is a lightweight, closed source but free alternative for the Ubuntu Software Center. It has a modern and intuitive graphical user interface, offering a grid view of the installable applications, including screenshots and ratings.

The latest version available is App Grid 0.252, which has been recently released, coming with a bunch of changes only.

The changelog, yes, the developers have humor:

“All the doors in this spaceship have a cheerful and sunny disposition. It is their pleasure to open for you […] with the knowledge of a job well done.” — Douglas Adams

Installation instructions:

Up to date packages are available via some third party PPA, so installing the software on Ubuntu and derivative systems is easy. All you need to do is add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the appgrid package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:appgrid/stable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install appgrid

Optional, to remove appgrid, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove appgrid

The installation instructions should work on Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint 6, Peppermint 5, LXLE 14.04 and Linux Lite 2.
