Hello Linux Geeksters. The Oracle Java 8 (stable) has been recently released, coming with a lot of changes and new features. Among others, it got support for functional program via the “Project Lambda”, received some security updates and bug-fixes and got some interface improvements, making the developers life easier.
In this article I will show you how to install the Oracle Java 8 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and derivative systems, including Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.
Because it is available via PPA, installing the Oracle Java 8 on the listed Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Elementary OS systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the oracle-java8-installer package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
