Hello Linux Geeksters. Cool Reader 3 is an open source lightweight e-book reader, based on XML and CSS. It is multiplatform, works on Linux, Windows or Android and has support for FB2, TXT, RTF, DOC, HTML, EPUB, CHM, PDB or MOBI. With Cool reader, you can read books inside zip archives, without extracting. The latest version available is Cool Reader 3 3.1.2, which has been recently released.
In this article I will show you how to install Cool Reader 3 3.1.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya and Elementary 0.2 Luna.
Because it is available via PPA, installing Cool Reader 3 3.1.2 on the listed Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Elementary OS is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the cr3 package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:vovansrnd/coolreader
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install cr3
Optional, to uninstall cool reader 3 and downgrade all the packages that got updated via the ppa, do:
$ sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:vovansrnd/coolreader
