Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Gnome Fallback (previously named Gnome Classic) is a good alternative for the fans of the good old Gnome 2. By choosing Gnome Fallback, the users are able to choose from the LightDM Greeter to start either a session with Compiz as the default window manager, or Metacity, a ligher WM.
In this article I will show you how to install Gnome Fallback on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr.
Because it is available via the default repositories, installing Gnome Fallback on Ubuntu 14.04 is easy. Just update the local repository index and install the gnome-session-fallback package:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
Actually, the gnome-session-fallback package is a meta package for gnome-session-flashback. After the installation has been successfully done, you can either choose a Gnome Session Flashback session with Compiz as the default WM, or with a Gnome Session Flashback Metacity as WM.
