Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps, is project created by third party developers under the supervision of the Ubuntu developers, for the Ubuntu Touch, the Ubuntu operating system for mobile phones.
Among others, the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps application pack contains a weather app, a calculator app, a docviewer app, an email client, a file manager, a terminal emulator, a music app, an rss reader and a sudoku game app.
A demo video of the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps, running on one of the Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn daily images has been posted on the internet, and the applications run quite well.
In this article I will show you how to install and test the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn.
You can either install all the Ubuntu Touch Core applications, by installing the touch-coreapps package, or a certain application only. To install and test the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps you also need to install the ubuntu-sdk, which is available via a separate PPA:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-sdk-team/ppa
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-touch-coreapps-drivers/daily
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-sdk touch-coreapps
To install only a certain application, replace touch-coreapps with the name of the application you want to install (example ubuntu-weather-app)
The applications included in the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps are:
