How To Install SABnzbd 0.7.18 On Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 And Other Derivatives

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, SABnzbd is an open-source newsreader written in Python, helping the users be stay up to date with the latest information, from their favorite sites, via Usenet.

Among others, it has a bunch of great themes, the features can be extended via either XML or JSON, has an intuitive interface, processes RSS feeds from indexing sites, has good integration with third party API tools and includes a Bandwidth limiter, Caching and special situations.

The latest version available is SABnzbd 0.7.18, which has been recently released. For information about this release, see the project’s site.

In this article I will show you how to install SABnzbd 0.7.18 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Peppermint Five, Deepin 2014, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0 and other Ubuntu derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installing SABnzbd 0.7.18 on Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the sabnzbdplus package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jcfp/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install sabnzbdplus

After you have successfully installed sabnzbdplus, open a browser, navigate to http://localhost:8080/wizard/ and configure it.

Optioanal, to remove sabnzbdplus, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove sabnzbdplus
