Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the first alpha version of Fedora 21 will be released tomorrow, after several delays, using GNOME 3.14 (stable or not) as the default desktop environment.

Fedora 21 Alpha 1 Will Be Released Tomorrow, Using GNOME 3.14 (Stable Or Not) As Default

Fedora 21 will be among the first systems to adopt GNOME 3.14, unlike Ubuntu 14.10 which will stick to GNOME 3.12. Also, GNOME 3.14 received a bunch of enhancements, for more information about this read this article and watch the video inside.

While there were a lot of discussions whether Wayland will be used or not as the default display server, according to the developers, X.org will be still implemented by default on Fedora 21, Wayland being installable via the default repositories.

How to test GNOME 3.14 over Wayland, without installing anything:

If you don’t want to install Fedora 21 Alpha 1 on your system, but are still curios to try GNOME 3.14 (unstable) running over Wayland, download this Fedora Live Workstation ISO image, run it as a Live system, press Ctrl + Alt + F1 to turn off the GUI, login (the user is liveuser and it has no password, leave the password field blank), switch of the Gnome Display Manager and install and test Wayland, like this:

$ sudo systemctl stop gdm
$ sudo dnf install gnome-session-wayland-session
$ gnome-session --session=gnome-wayland
